As soon as you start sharpening, the microscopic garnets come out of the stone which, together with water, form a very powerful abrasive milk.

Garnets are oval or round in shape. They are little balls with faces, they are made up of many flat faces all together. The edges of these planes are what “scratch” or sharpen in contact with the steel.

When garnets are roughly 15 microns, the penetration is only 2 or 3 microns, this is the reason why these stones sharpen so quickly and delicately.
